Notwithstanding the vacation holidays I worked during them, the pressure of business being very great till 1868, in which year I left the Colony for a fortnight only.
I went to England in 1864 when being ill (see Dr. Murray's Certificate) on a most distressing occasion, being absent from the Colony for two months on further leave, in addition to the vacation and four months which has usually been allowed as cumulative for previous vacations I had not enjoyed.
I then stayed over the four months for 13 days. On the suggestion of Sir J. Rogers, I remained in London to see him, and I thereby lost 14 days. Otherwise, I should have been back in the Colony within the 4 months.
On that occasion, I had to receive half pay only because in Mr Ball's absence, Mr. Pouncefote being Acting Attorney General and Acting Judge of the Summary Court...
